El-Rufai Commends Access Bank For Supporting UNICEF Charity Polo Tourney

The role played by Access Bank Plc. in the prestigious Access Bank/UNICEF Charity Shield Polo has been thumbed-up by the former minister of FCT and governor-elect of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.


El-Rufai, who was speaking at the Kangimi Resort, Kaduna, venue of the tournament, acknowledged the role of the bank in promoting charity, polo and sports generally in the country.


El-Rufai, represented by his deputy, Bala Bantex, who arrived at the venue alongside his cabinet members as the Special Guest of Honour, bowled the ball to officially gallop-off the 2015 edition of the Charity Shield tournament.


The state’s governor-elect, who watched DeeBee Farms defeat Akasma 7-21/2 in the first game of the Charity Shield, noted that the bank’s partnership with UNICEF and Fifth Chukka has helped in enriching the lives of many venerable children in the state.


The polo loving-governor-elect urged other corporate organisations to emulate the bank’s commitment to charity and sport promotion across the country, given the positive effect the event has had on the lives of venerable children in the society.


“We are happy with Access Bank and Fifth Chukka for taking the mantle of supporting UNICEF in its campaign of engaging our teeming youths positively through polo and other charitable activities and I urge them not to rest in their efforts,” El-Rufai stated.


A brand new car and a cash prize of N200,000 awaits the MVP of the UNICEF series. There are a number of prizes for the Best Playing Pony and lots of consolation prizes.


Access Bank Plc is supporting the event for the seventh year in a row.


Proceeds from gate takings, sales of memorabilia and donations at this annual tournament, as well as a cash donation of N10m from Access Bank Plc will be used to support the UNICEF in its campaign against HIV AIDS pandemic.

Meanwhile, the prestigious polo extravaganza which saw Fifth Chukka defeat Kangimi Resorts to win the Argentine Ambassador’s Cup last Sunday enters its crucial stages today (Wednesday) with high-goal teams vying for the Access Bank Cup and the Charity Shield, respectively.


The week-long charity polo fiesta attracted over 15 teams this year is considered one of the biggest charity polo fiestas in the continent. The event ends on Sunday with the Charity Shield Cup grand finale.
